America, the beautiful

by BJ

America, the beautiful, the free, the great. But I can assure you, Disneyland, it ain’t! (okay, I soo didn’t mean for that to come out rhyming).

Looking back to the eve of the Inauguration of our 44th President, it seemed everyone I encountered here in my neck of the woods had been floating on clouds of joy, tip-toe-ing through the tulips, their cup runneth over.

Even some folks whom I follow on Twitter had their wings a-flutter Tuesday night, with sugar-coated and warm, and gleeful Tweets about how happy they were going to be “Tomorrow”.

“Tomorrow is going to be a new day of promise and hope.  I’m so glad we are on the road to peace and happiness.”

“I can’t wait until tomorrow.  It’ll be like Christmas all over again!  Whee!”

“What a day of rejoicing that will be!”

Guess who said that last one?

Now here we are, on the cusp of yet another big bailout from Uncle Sam, this time it means a huge pork-barrel-laden stimulus bill full of empty promises, half-truths and probably not going to do any good for anyone, except Big Government.  Wasteful.

TODAY at NOON (Eastern), the National Tea Party, a movement that is spreading widely across the web as I speak…er, type.  The plan is to get as many people to stand up against this plan by President Obama and his congress, and to keep our money where it belongs.

In our wallets!

This movement has spread from a decent ripple by a group in Illinois to a nationwide wave.

If you cannot find a location near you to attend, you can always check out the Top Conservatives on Twitter to see who will be Tweeting the event.

* If you guessed Oprah, you’d be absolutely, positively correct.

Time to take action!

Time to take action!

Smart Girl Politics is proud to be a co-sponsor of the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party.

Online conservative activists have rallied to CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s call earlier this week, backed by mortgage traders, for a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party” to protest the Obama Administration’s bailout plan.

Moving quickly, Top Conservatives on Twitter , Smart Girl Politics, the #DontGo Movement, Americans for Tax Reform, the Heartland Institute, and American Spectator Magazine joined forces to announce a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party”, to be held on Friday, February 27 at noon EASTERN STANDARD TIME.

Please find the cities and links for individual tea party events.  You can also join the action Friday, February 27, 2009 @ 12:00 pm EST virtually, on Twitter. (Use the hashtag #teaparty to join and support the protests)

More details and full list of Tea Party locations here.

Obama’s new cabinet

With the news of Tim Geithner getting the green light as Obama’s Treasury Secretary, even though he’s all, “D’uh…what’s this thing called the IRS, and why do I have to pay them all this stuff called ‘taxes’??”, plus the recent hubbub surrounding Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Tom Daschle’s troubles, it’s all enough to make me chuckle.

I mean, who cares if the guy in charge of the country’s finances is a little lazy with taxes?”

Who needs a secretary of defense with no military leadership experience?  Isn’t it good enough if say, he or she has been a champ at Milton Bradley’s “Battleship” since they were eleven, and spends their weekends playing paintball tournaments?

And come on…does it really matter if the attorney general doesn’t have a license to practice law?

I say, “What the heck! Go crazy!”

I know most of President Obama’s cabinet is set for his administration, but in case he decides to re-consider his selections.  Since he’s obviously got some issues with judgment of character, I have a few recommendations for cabinet secretaries as well as some special advisory positions…all based on experience, of course! Enjoy!

Comments not working

Hi folks

I don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but the comments for Right Girls blog are not going through.

A blank page comes up when you submit your comment. I’ve let someone know about this, but wanted to point it out to our readers. Not sure if barked up the right tree (Eric O.), but hopefully we’ll have this resolved soon.

Thanks for your patience, dear readers!

Pomp and Circum-wince?

by BJ

I sort of missed the inauguration ceremony today, not on purpose, really.  I forgot I had a meeting scheduled today with a colleague.  She and I were going to be having coffee in Uptown Minneapolis this morning to go over a new project together.

I did however, get to listen in on parts of the broadcast though, as my colleague and I wound up at a local pub after discovering that the nearby Starbuck’s at which we’d planned to meet, had recently closed. The pub had a giant flat-screen TV up on the wall, and it just so happened to be blaring the Today Show’s broadcast of the morning’s event loud enough for all the patrons (not to mention everyone the next two blocks over) to hear.
