The StrawMan Goes to Washington
Suddenly, it is acceptable for Chrysler to fail. In their ever expanding role, government is now the definitive authority in a car makers ability to continue and HOW that continuation will occur. In addition, while we were sleeping, Consumer Reports became the benchmark by which we now measure viability. If Consumer Reports doesn’t like you, government won’t help you. Well, for craps sake why didn’t they look there 6 months ago!! Was Washington unaware Consumer Reports existed until yesterday? If they had, we would be $4 billion dollars richer today. Hell, they could have called and asked me. Chrysler has been in and out of the crapper for my entire life-I live in St. Louis-I have been well aware of their true sustainability since I was about 10.
In reference to Chrysler:
“Not only that, these sources said in no uncertain terms, its cars aren’t very good either. In a conference call with reporters, a senior administration official cited several awards recently presented to General Motors cars, but could think of no industry recognition for Chrysler vehicles. “Chrysler has no cars that are recommended by Consumer Reports,” the official said.”
As I have made perfectly clear, I am not against letting these car companies go through Chapter 11. I am not for bailing them out. This does not feel like the truth to me though; this idea that Obama is putting his foot down and he has had enough. I don’t like it. It all just seems like so much smoke and mirrors to me.
Here is what we are actually getting: The CEO of GM was “asked” to step down by the White House. You know Rick Wagoner, the man who has done more for GM than possibly any other CEO in GM’s history. (Or at least in a very long time) They would have failed years ago if not for him. Interesting, still it seems they are looking for a sacrificial lamb. Also interesting? Wagoner is “asked” to step down; what about that crook Gettelfinger? Was he asked to step down after years of mismanagement and crooked politics?
No matter any of that, Washington- who has never run a business and can’t run WASHINGTON-is now in control. The administration demanding cars are built smaller, with alternative forms of fuel that we do not yet have! This must be seen for what it really is-a power grab. They will rule this company by committee and if I had to guess it will be a committee of fools.
Then there is the less discussed demand of Chrysler. They have been told merge with Fiat or go bankrupt. Just a few short months ago they were too big to fail. Then the point is made that they are backed by a private investment company that won’t even give them any money. Umm, just so you know this is no different than it was 6 months ago. You know, before we spent 4 billion on nothing. The most interesting tidbit of the whole thing? The merger with Fiat cannot move forward unless the government maintains the controlling interest. Now, you might say this is to protect their interest, namely the “loan” that was given. That looks like an excellent reason on paper, but I wonder how hard it will be to get them out once they’re in there. I also wonder how much policy, production, and salary conditions they will impose. I wonder what demands they will make of Fiat. I wonder why anyone would get in bed with the government after what they did to AIG.
Finally, don’t fool yourself; this power grab is not coincidental. Geithner is already grabbing for his. First go the financials, then goes manufacturing, who’s next? Me? You? Oh, and GM will get the money in the end. They will get it because the Administration wants this stronghold.

Who is the Wizard?
Written by D.
There are many jokes on the internet now that refer to TOTUS, the President’s teleprompter. I hear it even has its own official seal. The references are mostly in regards to O being fed information through his teleprompter and his apparent dependency on it.
This dependency on a teleprompter by someone we were told during the campaign was highly intelligent because of his Ivy League education and speaking ability, is an interesting observation. It appears that his ability to communicate diminishes substantially without it and that is troubling.
But instead of dwelling on the teleprompter, shouldn’t the real question be who is behind the teleprompter?
Like the Wizard of Oz, the Wizard was larger than life but behind the smoke and projected image was a little man hidden behind a curtain who was the true ruler of Oz.
So shouldn’t we be asking who really rules Oz and, like Toto, pull back the curtain to expose those who are projecting the image of O as a “great and powerful” Wizard? After all, even Dorothy’s little dog Toto knew enough to sniff out a sham and expose it.
We need to start asking who is in charge? Americans need to know because we didn’t elect that person, he is neither POTUS nor TOTUS – but he appears to be in control and is formulating some very bad policy for our country.

NO THANKS, WE ALREADY HAVE ONE THAT YOU CAN’T IMPROVE UPON
Written By D.
I hear by way of American Thinker http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/03/obama_wants_you_to_pledge_loya.html that the O Groupies are out knocking on doors trying to get people to pledge their allegiance to O.
Last I heard there was only one Pledge of Allegiance in the United States and it wasn’t a pledge of allegiance to a politician.
Now, historically, there was only one President who, theoretically, could have been King and that was George Washington. We all know George didn’t think that was a good idea and I tend to agree with him, and I would guess so do the vast majority of Americans.
Either the O Groupies never learned the basic history of our country or they chose to ignore it because they blindly place their worship of one politician ahead of all else.
So just in case they missed it – here is our country’s Pledge of Allegiance;
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.”
I also suggest that the O Groupies wake up and smell the Democracy inherent in our pledge before it is too late.

Welcome to Cry Baby Washington
“I did think it might be useful to point out that it wasn’t under me that we started buying a bunch of shares of banks. It wasn’t on my watch.”
OH MY GOODNESS-DUUUUUUUUUUUDE-we get it, you inherited everything that is wrong today. Umm, yeah like every other President before you. Geez Louise, please grow up and grow a pair. If you are not prepared to deal with the current situation the way it is……………………please resign.
Oh and I don’t know if your mother ever taught you: Two wrongs don’t make a right. Just because Bush screwed up and started spending like Paris Hilton in a shoe store doesn’t mean you doing it bigger makes everything ok. It doesn’t.
Hmmm, I wonder if he needed a teleprompter when he called these reporters.
Conservatism, Politicking and Sweet, Sweet Tea.
“We are on strike, we the men of the mind. We are on strike against self-immolation. We are on strike against the creed of unearned rewards and unrewarded duties.”-John Galt “Atlas Shrugged”
Sometime last year I decided I had had enough. I decided it was time to get involved, no longer sitting on the sidelines letting politics happen to me. So Friday, among the zillions of other small things I am doing to be more productive in politics, I had the opportunity to participate in a real live protest. Like thousands of others-maybe as many as 30,000 people in 50+ cities-I participated on February 27th in a “Chicago Tea Party” Rally. Locally, at our St. Louis rally it is estimated we had over 1,000 folks show up to express our displeasure with the ridiculous pork and taxation that is coming our way from Capitol Hill. I volunteered my time to assist in the implementation, shouted and cheered during the speeches and did what I could to once more to further and promote conservative ideals.
We did, of course, have a message that we were promoting as a whole over all-repeal the pork or we’ll repeal you-something like that, which I can definitely support. Media was everywhere; the coverage was really good and in the end, mostly balanced. The organizers and we volunteers could not have been happier to see conservatives come together for a common purpose and message. It’s about time. It was enough to almost make me tear up a little. Cool enough, we’re even planning our next event here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=66989849578#/event.php?eid=66989849578
So what is my personal motivation? We all have a global message which the Tea Party is promoting, we’re there because we agree that government and spending are out of control and our politicians are not listening to us-but I would say everyone also has a personal reason for showing up; for having passion about this issue. Mine are many, but here are just a few:
Personal Responsibility-I believe every person is responsible for their own actions. I believe your life is what you make of it. I believe no one can pull you up or make you better-you have to do it for yourself. I believe the government LEAST OF ALL can do one thing to make you a better person or somehow enrich your life. I am sick of the notion that people are “entitled” to anything simply because they were born. The only thing we are born entitled to is fair opportunity.
Fiscal Responsibility- My mom always taught me: Do the thing that will have the most impact while doing the least harm, in times of crisis. Just because America has a headache, does not mean, as a whole, we should be getting a lobotomy. It is insulting and maddening that Obama has forgotten there is a lot of gray between the black and white of action and inaction. (If you want to take that as a racial slight of some kind-go ahead-it wasn’t, but some would be determined to make it so.)There were hundreds of other approaches that could have been taken that would have actually helped people who need help and given stimulation to the economy. Sadly, we must also realize sometimes you gotta suck it up. Some parts of this recession just need to happen. Some things will be painful and some people will be affected. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. As I have said before-it is quite presumptuous to think Obama has some magical power to stop a tornado. Rather than trying to stop it, we should be looking forward to how we will move on from it.
Political Responsibility-Every day I am more concerned with the direction of our country. I grow tired of RINO’s and those in the party who are not conservative LEADERS, but only a mouthpiece. I am weary of Republicans who reach across the aisle so far they are in danger of spontaneously combusting into Democrats. When bipartisanship means Republicans will rubber stamp every bill or policy the Obama Administration puts in front of you-I want you OUT. When you say we should accept less just to get along-YOU are excused from participating. Dear leaders, if you are not going to vote ALWAYS in the interest of conservative values and principles then PLEASE LEAVE THE PARTY-I AM DONE WITH YOU. Oh, and just so we’re clear-I don’t really care who you are. I have never been one to go along just to get along. It’s not my style and if it’s yours….well you see where I’m going.
I tell my children all the time if you do not like something you must take action to change it. If you aren’t going to take any action, then you have absolutely no right to whine when you don’t like the results. Well folks-I am taking action. It’s time our Republican politicians actually lead and bring back the conservatism this country so desperately needs.
Politicians have never shown me the value behind being and living conservatively-my family, my friends, the people I associate with and my pride showed me that.

Socialist Blitzkrieg
Written By D.
Blitzkrieg as defined at Wikipedia; “an all-mechanized force concentrating its attack on a small section of the enemy front then, once the latter is pierced, proceeding without regard to its flank.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitzkrieg
In World War II, The French & English were defeated in the Battle of France by Blitzkrieg. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_France
Right now we are experiencing the Socialist political equivalent of Blitzkrieg. The liberals are concentrating on quickly destroying capitalism and enacting laws that will restrict our freedoms by using a highly mechanized force of the like-minded. This is aimed at forcing highly unpopular government taxes and controls on the rest of us – the silent majority.
Traditional politics as played by the GOP is like a Maginot Line whose purpose is defensive. The Low Countries (RINOs) are a weak spot. The Ardennes is the unattended forest of issues attacking our basic rights because freedom, taken for granted until now, seemed unnecessary to defend and impossible to break through.
Well folks, the tanks are rolling right over the Low Countries and they are breaking through the Ardennes. The Maginot Line is being flanked. This is not traditional politics we are facing … this is Socialist Blitzkrieg.
Do you think maybe it is time to do something? And I don’t mean retreat to the coast and hope that ships will come along and carry us to safety. In this battle for freedom no ships will be coming to save us. Yep, it’s time to take a stand, it is time to move forward and go on the political offensive.
What can the GOP do to defeat the Blitzkrieg?
1. STOP the GOP mea culpa talk immediately. Our leaders need to take the philosophical fight to the enemy, and end the “girlie man” self recriminations.
2. DEVELOP a clear, simple message that is easily understood by all and keep repeating it
3. ABANDON the Maginot Line defensive attitude and go on the attack in a unified manner. The Tea Parties are a step in the right direction.
4. IGNORE MSM criticism completely, this is no time to be sensitive about what the people who hate your guts and are out to destroy you think
5. USE the conservative websites, blogs and social media to share and spread the message
6. KEEP UP the pressure on elected representative at the state and federal level. Start putting that same pressure on the judicial branch, let them know you are watching and start calling for the resignations of judges who ignore our Constitution.
7. FOCUS your criticism and stop prefacing them with complements about speaking ability or intellect. Remember where the buck stops and that’s where you focus, forget the other lib clowns, for now. If the last 8 years were Bushes fault, then everything from here on out is O’s fault.
8. REMEMBER this is not about you it is about the “US” in USA, so put aside any pettiness or power trips and work together. If you are in this for fame and glory you should probably join the Democrats.
9. TALK to anyone who will listen, remember you are “PROUD TO BE A CONSERVATIVE” and unafraid to share its philosophy. You can start by asking people if they are better off now than they were a month ago and keep adding to it as the months go by.
10. VOTE in every election like your freedom depends on it and make sure all your like-minded family and friends get out and vote
11. JUST say no to compromise that isn’t bipartisan and to legislation that robs you of your freedom and your money.
Just remember, the French & English lost the Battle of France to Blitzkrieg, but the Americans won the Battle of the Bulge ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge) because when the Germans tried the same type of Blitzkrieg tactics again in the Ardennes, the U.S. 101st Airborne Division and General McAuliffe, though surrounded, held out, kept fighting and famously said, “NUTS!” in response to German demands for surrender. General Patton arrived with the 3rd Army to relieve them – proving Blitzkrieg works both ways. Four months later the war was over, Hitler was gone and so was his brand of Socialism.

America, the beautiful
by BJ
America, the beautiful, the free, the great. But I can assure you, Disneyland, it ain’t! (okay, I soo didn’t mean for that to come out rhyming).
Looking back to the eve of the Inauguration of our 44th President, it seemed everyone I encountered here in my neck of the woods had been floating on clouds of joy, tip-toe-ing through the tulips, their cup runneth over.
Even some folks whom I follow on Twitter had their wings a-flutter Tuesday night, with sugar-coated and warm, and gleeful Tweets about how happy they were going to be “Tomorrow”.
“Tomorrow is going to be a new day of promise and hope. I’m so glad we are on the road to peace and happiness.”
“I can’t wait until tomorrow. It’ll be like Christmas all over again! Whee!”
“What a day of rejoicing that will be!”
Guess who said that last one?
Now here we are, on the cusp of yet another big bailout from Uncle Sam, this time it means a huge pork-barrel-laden stimulus bill full of empty promises, half-truths and probably not going to do any good for anyone, except Big Government. Wasteful.
TODAY at NOON (Eastern), the National Tea Party, a movement that is spreading widely across the web as I speak…er, type. The plan is to get as many people to stand up against this plan by President Obama and his congress, and to keep our money where it belongs.
In our wallets!
This movement has spread from a decent ripple by a group in Illinois to a nationwide wave.
If you cannot find a location near you to attend, you can always check out the Top Conservatives on Twitter to see who will be Tweeting the event.
* If you guessed Oprah, you’d be absolutely, positively correct.

Time to take action!
Smart Girl Politics is proud to be a co-sponsor of the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party.
Online conservative activists have rallied to CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s call earlier this week, backed by mortgage traders, for a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party” to protest the Obama Administration’s bailout plan.
Moving quickly, Top Conservatives on Twitter , Smart Girl Politics, the #DontGo Movement, Americans for Tax Reform, the Heartland Institute, and American Spectator Magazine joined forces to announce a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party”, to be held on Friday, February 27 at noon EASTERN STANDARD TIME.
Please find the cities and links for individual tea party events. You can also join the action Friday, February 27, 2009 @ 12:00 pm EST virtually, on Twitter. (Use the hashtag #teaparty to join and support the protests)

Meanwhile, Back in Tax-A-Lot
Written By D.
Once upon a time in the land of Tax-A-Lot most of the serfs were working very hard to improve their lives by growing small gardens in the back of their huts. They were also able to raise more livestock by feeding them from their gardens. Eventually, they had enough crops and livestock so they could sell or trade in the marketplace for goods and services. Life was as good as it gets for the serfs.
But the lords, seeing this success, wanted a share of this largesse so they decided that new taxes were in order. First the Lords ruled that a tax of 50% of all the garden crops and livestock be imposed. They knew this would not be popular so they gathered together the non-productive serfs who were too lazy to grow gardens and were very jealous of the success of the hard working productive serfs. They told these non-productive serfs that they were “less fortunate” and that it was “unfair” for those “rich” serfs to have more. The non-productive serfs readily agreed with this analysis.
The lords made these “less fortunate” serfs the tax collectors and gave them the power to confiscate the crops and livestock owed to the lords. Of course, the lords knew that these non-productive serfs were not to be trusted and expected that a portion of the crops and livestock collected would be stolen by the tax collectors but this was a small matter in their minds.
The goal of the lords was to enrich themselves while setting serf against serf. They posted a declaration in the village that since some of the serfs had more than others, it was only fair that they collect 50% to even the playing field. They had no intention of giving the 50% they collected to the “less fortunate” serfs but knew these serfs would be satisfied skimming off the tax collections and beating up on the “rich” serfs. The lords knew the value of “empowering” the non-productive serfs and allowing them to act out on their feelings of jealousy and hatred.
In the meantime, the productive serfs gathered together and discussed the new tax burden and the way in which it was to be collected. They decided that enough was enough and that they would resist. So they appointed a spokesman to express their grievances and they all headed to the castle to discuss the matter with the lords. But the lords ignored them and mocked their protest. This angered the serfs.
Next the serfs decided to form a group to defend their gardens and livestock from the tax collectors. But the lords sent their loyal castle guards to protect the tax collectors.
What’s a serf to do? Finally, one of the productive serfs realized that it was their productivity that drove Tax-a-Lot, he told the other serfs that without their labor, there was no Tax-a-Lot.
The serfs were willing to make sacrifices to drive home this point because they knew that if they didn’t, they would continue to be oppressed and there would be no end to the greed of the lords.
The serfs destroyed their gardens and all the crops, setting even the Tax-A-Lot fields on fire and they slaughtered all their livestock. They stopped working and Tax-A-Lot quickly ground to a halt. The marketplace closed down as there was nothing to trade. The serfs lived off of roots and rats and anything that was available. But serf’s were used to a life of just getting by and believed this hardship was worth it.
The tax collectors had nothing to collect and as they were held in distain equally by the lords and the productive serfs, they were the first to starve. They realized too late that the productivity of the majority had also kept them fed.
The lords soon realized that their plan had backfired and they had become considerably less wealthy as a result of it. They had gone too far and pushed the serfs too hard, but they still felt the need to abuse their authority because that is what lords do.
So they sent all their troops to intimidate the serfs, but the troops refused to harm the serfs because they knew that without their productivity they too would soon starve. The troops, after all, were just serfs with swords and rightly identified with the serf’s plight.
The serfs convinced the troops that the lords needed to be sent a message. They joined together and headed for the castle. They stood before the Lords and read a declaration of their own.
“Let it be known that from this day forward in the kingdom of Tax-A-Lot that the serfs, will provide the lords a reasonable portion of their labor to cover the costs of governing and defending Tax-A-Lot. The portion will be determined by a vote of all the productive serfs and the lords will have to learn to live within their means. Further, all personal gardens, possessions and accumulated wealth of the serfs will not be subject to taxation.”
The lords had no choice but to accept these terms, because as it turns out, much to everyone’s surprise, the serfs were the real power behind the success of Tax-a-Lot.
And, because this story has no stimulus package or bailouts, Tax-A-Lot became the most productive place in all of the land.

Stop Reaching Back to the Future
First, it was back to the future for blame on the current economic crisis. Then, it was back to the future on the current spending bill, budget and bailouts. The whole, “I inherited a debt, so I have to quadruple it.” just doesn’t hold water. You wanted it, you ran for it, it’s yours-you own it.
Then, we had the attempted changing of contracts, previously drawn up, legal and known. Everyone got all up in arms over the AIG bonuses, which are legally enforceable contracts. The administration thought they might just step in and change the contract. Geithner thinks we should give him the ability to go back to the future forever, at any bank, for any worker, for any reason and make changes to the pay structures and contracts-whether they take TARP funds or not. Um, no.
What about Rick Wagoner? This Administration went back to the future to change the terms of GM’s contracted employment by strongly suggesting that the head of GM step down. Just say what it is-the Obama administration fired that guy, no matter that he had a contract. They went back to the future and got rid of the guy who was originally in charge when the money was first given. When Administration decided they wanted more control they went in and put new terms on an old deal.
Oh, that’s no kidding.
Now today, I see the most egregious example of reaching back into the future possibly prosecuting the lawyers who drew up the legal memos approving harsh interrogation tactics. The tactics that have been proven to have stopped additional attacks and prevented death. Really, that is not even the point-the point is these memos were determined legal at the time. You cannot go back and now prosecute someone for something that was not illegal when they did it. The cops can’t come and give me a ticket now for not wearing a seatbelt when I was 10-it was not the law then.
Not only is this practice completely wrong thinking and immoral, it’s dangerous. We cannot live in a world where any legal and binding thing can be undone by the government, at any time, for any reason and at any whim. If corporate executives must consider they could lose future (and possibly past) compensation with no apparent rhyme or reason, they will simply stop taking those jobs. If corporations worry that any deal can be remade without their consent, they will stop making deals. If folks designated with keeping America safe worry that at any time they could be held to account for something that at one time was not illegal, but is now, we will no longer be safe. If this Administration is allowed to continue reaching back to the future unchecked, shaping past policy to fit today’s agenda, we should all worry. In that world, no one is safe when the Administration decides they don’t like your setup either.
